The crash was Tuesday. Wednesday you felt 'mostly fine.' By Friday your neck won't turn and the headaches have started. That delay is classic whiplash — and it's exactly why getting examined after a collision matters even when you walked away.
What’s actually going on
Whiplash is a rapid acceleration-deceleration injury: the head whips, and the neck's joints, discs, ligaments and muscles absorb forces they weren't braced for. Symptoms — neck pain and stiffness, headaches at the skull base, shoulder and arm symptoms, dizziness, fatigue — commonly appear 24 to 72 hours after the crash, not at the scene.
Common causes we see
- Rear-end collisions (the classic mechanism, even at low speeds)
- Side impacts adding rotation to the whip
- Sports collisions and falls with the same physics
- Bracing at impact — sometimes protective, sometimes not
How we evaluate it
A collision case gets our most careful workup: detailed injury history (crash mechanics matter), orthopedic and neurological examination, imaging referral when findings call for it, and screening for injuries that belong in medical hands first. Dr. Bader's postgraduate training included formal independent-medical-evaluation report writing — so the documentation of your injuries, findings and care is built to stand up to insurers and attorneys, not just to fill a chart.
How chiropractic care may help
Once serious injury is ruled out, care typically progresses through stages: early pain control (gentle modalities, controlled motion — modern care avoids weeks in a collar), then restoring joint motion with specific adjustments as tissues tolerate, then strengthening and posture work so the injury doesn't become the chronic kind. Many whiplash patients recover well with conservative care over weeks to a few months; we document progress at every stage.
What to expect
Bring your crash details, claim number and any ER paperwork. We handle auto-injury documentation constantly and will coordinate with your insurer or attorney — you focus on recovering.
⚠ When to seek medical care instead
Emergency evaluation first for: loss of consciousness at the scene, severe midline neck tenderness after high-speed impact, progressive weakness or numbness, confusion, or vision changes. If the ER cleared you and symptoms are emerging days later — that's the normal whiplash arc, and the right time to be examined.
Care-timing context: modern whiplash guidelines favor early controlled activity over prolonged immobilization (Quebec Task Force framework and successors).

I feel fine after my accident. Should I still get checked?
A brief examination after a collision is reasonable precisely because whiplash symptoms are typically delayed. If the exam is clean, you get peace of mind and a baseline on record; if it isn't, early care beats waiting for week three.
Will insurance pay for my care?
Auto-injury care is commonly covered through auto policies (med-pay) or third-party claims. We document to insurance standards and will verify your situation before care begins — you'll know where you stand.
How long does whiplash take to heal?
Honest ranges: many recover in weeks; some cases take months, and severity at onset doesn't always predict it. Early, active, documented care is associated with better arcs than wait-and-see.
What patients say
Reno Patients, In Their Own Words
“First time here… Friendly and efficient receptionist, she explained everything in detail. I saw Dr. Bader. Listened to my areas of pain, explained many things and my first adjustment was great. He is also friendly, has good “bedside” manners. They are a hometown health provider.”
“I’ve been seeing Dr. Bader for the last 15 years. He is extremely knowledgeable and has a great bedside manor. The office is very well run… Most insurance is accepted and if it’s not, the cash plan is very reasonable. Walk in’s are acceptable and same day appointments are most likely.”
“Dr Bader is a Super Chiropractor! Palmer educated.”
“They actually work on fixing your issues with adjustments and therapy and get you in and out of the office in a timely manner.”
